Open Access Week 2023 is an opportunity to learn about and celebrate our collective momentum in building a more open and equitable system for sharing knowledge. You can read more about OA Week and Open Scholarship in this recent Libraries Blog post. This year the Libraries has planned a great lineup of events to mark the occasion.
Since all UW theses and dissertations must ultimately be made openly available in UW’s Institutional Repository, ResearchWorks, one of these events will be our quarterly workshop on the publishing and copyright issues that students may face when writing and distributing their theses or dissertations. If you would be willing to forward this notice to your students I would very much appreciate it!
“UW Theses and Dissertations” will be held online on Tuesday, October 24, from 2-3pm as part of UW’s celebration of International Open Access Week. For many students, the thesis or dissertation represents one of their first forays into publicly disseminating the products of their scholarship. This webinar will give an overview of the copyright and publishing issues students should consider, and demonstrate how their decisions are reflected in the ETDAdministrator system. It will offer the opportunity for students to think through their options for how and when to share their work, and to ask questions about the process.
