The Master of Science in Data Science is hosting a Data Science in Health Panel coming up on Monday, April 19 from 6:00 – 7:00 PM PT! The event will be hosted on Zoom. We have three phenomenal data scientists joining us – including an MSDS alum! – to talk about their experience working in data science in the health sector. We’ll have some questions to kick things off, and we encourage you to bring your own questions for them, as well! You can RSVP at this link.

ABOUT OUR PANELISTS:

Kate Hertweck is Bioinformatics Training Manager at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, where they support the efforts of biomedical researchers to learn and apply data and computational skills. While implementing training, documentation, and community-building activities, they engage with data science topics ranging from basic research in biomedically-relevant topics like genomics and cellular biology to clinical issues with health informatics.

Elizabeth Montague is an MSDS alum who works as an Analytics Manager at Seattle Children’s Hospital. She leads a collaborative team of data scientists, engineers, and analysts that provide data solutions and analyses for hospital operations. One of her areas of focus is data ethics, and she worked with a multidisciplinary team to create a data ethics checklist. They recently published the checklist in the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association.

Saraswathi Sathees is a Data Scientist at UW Medicine in the Virology Division. She is currently working with UW virology investigators and analysts to develop data models , organize and analyze clinical data. Her recent projects include developing a central repository for specimen data to track the associated patient details, lab results and to locate the specimens in the lab requested for sequencing. She is also a part of WA COVID-19 Serosurvey where she analyzes surveillance data to plan the scheduling operations.
