This is an updated quarterly announcement of open ECE undergraduate and graduate research positions at the Sensors, Energy, and Automation Laboratory (SEAL) in the UW Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Seattle.

We have positions open now and for Summer quarter.

SEAL is a great place to get involved in campus research and to design new technologies that help our local community, even while you are practicing self-isolation or social distancing. We have also designed an extensive online training program for our ECE students, so that they can receive training and participate in campus research during these unusual times.

Some projects you may be interested in include:
  • SINEW Mask Project: The goal of this project is to design a new type of face mask that does not come in contact with the skin of the wearer’s face. The mask design will match the comfort of a well-fit bicycle helmet or a pair of glasses, while also providing the wearer with better safety than industry alternatives. The masks are reusable, energy efficient, and environmentally friendly.
  • SWIFT Project: The goal of this project is to design a 3D imaging tool to improve ostomate quality of life, primarily by helping ostomates manage their stomas. Through the use of a modern smartphone, ostomates can use SWIFT to scan and inspect their stomas and improve appliance fit.
  • Operatory Monitoring Project: The goal of this project is to design a comprehensive methodology for acquiring information on the spatial and temporal distribution of aerosols in a dental or medical office environment. Dental and medical professionals are at risk of exposure to harmful particulate matter when performing routine procedures. Through the use of a network of low-cost, IoT-enabled particulate matter sensors, we can help keep dental and medical professionals safe.
