Applications now open: Advanced Experience Program (AXP) – Science Policy Analysis Track & Tech Due Diligence Track

The Advanced Experience Program (AXP), created with generous support from the Mark Torrance Foundation, enables UW doctoral students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to apply their knowledge to support decision-makers in cleantech investing and clean energy policy.

AXP is designed to be a flexible time commitment to complement each student’s Ph.D. training and longer-term professional development at the UW. There are two tracks that comprise AXP: (1) Tech Due Diligence Track and (2) Science Policy Analysis Track. The time commitment for each track is approximately 20 hours (not including a final writeup which is typically a two-page contribution to a larger investment or policy document). Participants will receive a $1,000 honorarium after both their 20-hour time commitment and final writeup are complete.

Tech Due Diligence:
Analysts will support the review, screening, and due diligence process for a wide range of cleantech companies applying for early-stage investment from E8 investors, including next-generation solar technologies (e.g. Blue Dot Photonics and Edgehog Solar), microgrid management software (60Hertz), water quality and analysis (2S Water), hydrogen, carbon capture, and sustainable fuels, among others.

Science Policy Analysts:
Students in this track will work with the Washington State Academy of Sciences (WSAS) on topics broadly related to energy, the environment, and technology-based economic development. Policy analysts typically work in a team, and gather information by participating in relevant meetings, reading reports, etc., and will then prepare technical policy briefings or white papers in collaboration with WSAS staff and the CEI Policy Analyst in Residence.

Applications for the Advanced Experience Program will be due July 15.
*Advisors need to fill out a (very) brief form indicating their support for their student’s application. (recommendation letters are not required)

**Deadline for applications and form from an advisor: 11:59 pm July 15.
