We are pleased to announce the Rising Doctoral Institute (RDI), for underrepresented minority students (African American, Native American, Pacific Island and Hispanic) who will begin an engineering Ph.D. program in Fall 2021. This 4-day interactive workshop grew out of the successful Dissertation Institute (DI) program we have been running for the past five years. The RDI will take place virtually July 19th – 22nd. The RDI is funded by the National Science Foundation and hosted by Virginia Tech, Arizona State University, Rowan University and the University of Texas Dallas.

RDI participants will:  1) receive a timely orientation about preparing themselves to start graduate school, 2) engage with a mentoring network where doctoral advisors and other participants would gather to discuss and share experiences, beliefs, expectations, and the nature of graduate work, and 3) develop key insights developed specifically for first year doctoral students.

To apply to the RDI, participants will need to submit the following to risingdoctoralinstitute@gmail.com
•        An application form
•        A copy of their letter of acceptance to their PhD program; and
•        A current C.V.

Any underrepresented minority student who will start a Ph.D. in engineering Fall 2021 and is either a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident is eligible to participate in the RDI. We have 30 spaces available. A participant stipend will be provided for participation upon the conclusion of the RDI.
