Swarthmore is one of just a few small liberal arts colleges with an ABET-accredited Engineering program. Its proximity to Philadelphia provides both access to potential collaborators in the area and a great quality of life. Our department just moved into a brand-new, state-of-the-art science building, and new faculty members will benefit from lab space, startup, and many other forms of departmental and institutional support.
The teaching load is very manageable at two courses per semester, and they have a generous sabbatical leave policy with one semester of leave every four years, extendable to a full year with outside funding. Their excellent undergrads compare favorably with early-career grad students at other institutions, and there is typically college funding to hire two per summer as research assistants at no cost to their faculty advisor.
