The NHERI Research Experiences for Undergraduates program (REU) is a national-class summer research program designed for high-achieving college students seeking to build research skills and enhance their academic resume.

Participants spend 10 weeks at one of NHERI’s university-based facilities, doing hands-on research in areas such as earthquake engineering, wind engineering, tsunami engineering, multihazard engineering, cyber-physical experimentation, natural hazards reconnaissance, cyberinfrastructure and data management, and natural hazards simulation.

Among the benefits of the NHERI REU program:

  • Travel funds to and from the research facility
  • Housing subsidy to help with living expenses
  • Research stipend for summer work
  • Research and career experience alongside faculty mentors
  • Travel funds to and from the NHERI REU site to present a research project and a chance to network with engineering researchers, scientists, and natural hazards experts
