Department: Office for the Advancement of Engineering Teaching & Learning (ET&L), College of Engineering

General Duties/Description: The mission of ET&L is to improve teaching and learning in the UW College of Engineering. ET&L’s instructional services provide diverse development opportunities tailored to the needs of engineering faculty. A successful candidate will help support our office’s instructional development activities, focusing on mid-quarter course assessments. This person will work closely with ET&L’s director, with primary responsibilities including collecting, analyzing, and inputting formative assessment data. They may also be involved in developing electronic and paper teaching resources for engineering faculty, researching teaching issues, aiding in designing workshops on teaching issues, developing assessment plans and syllabi, and preparing related publications, including presentation materials and curricula. This person may also have some design and maintenance responsibilities for the ET&L formative assessment database and work to develop its functionality as a teaching resource. As time permits, they will also have opportunities to be supported in pursuing teaching-related initiatives of their personal interest (e.g., TA development). 

 Requirements: The position is open to full-time, doctoral graduate students in the College of Engineering at the University of Washington. Applicants must be available for autumn through spring quarters, next academic year. Job requirements include excellent close reading and organizational skills, good professional communication skills, the ability to maintain confidential information, and evidence of interest in improving educational practice. Ideal applicants will also have experience in not only engineering education practice (teaching) but also education research, especially with qualitative data analysis and literature searches. Competence with Google cloud tools (Drive, Docs, Forms, etc.) is required. Experience with web or Access database development is a plus.

Salary: This is an Academic Student Employee position governed by the UAW Contract <https://hr.uw.edu/labor/unions/uaw/ase-contract> and paid in accordance with the TA/RA Salary Schedule associated with the student’s academic department.

Tuition: This position includes a tuition waiver.

Duration: This appointment is for three quarters, from September 16, 2022, through June 15, 2023.
