DEADLINES:
June 3, 5 pm – ECE internal deadline
June 7, 12 pm – Microsoft deadline
June 10 – Qualified nominees will receive an invitation email from Microsoft to submit their proposal
July 8 – Submission portal for proposals closes
August 19 – Selected candidates are notified of their fellowship offer by email
September 28 – Fellowship recipients are announced publicly

Provisions of the Award
- Tuition and fees will be covered for two academic years (2023-24 and 2024-25)
- A $42,000 USD stipend will be provided to help with living expenses (which includes but are not limited to childcare, conference fees, travel, research equipment, meals, rent, etc. while in school for the two academic years noted above
- Opportunities will be provided to build relationships with research teams at Microsoft and receive mentorship
Important notes:
- Students must be in their third year of their PhD program in September 2022 (no exceptions)
- A student’s proposed research must be closely related to the general areas of Microsoft Research which you can find here
- The recipient must remain an active, full-time student in a PhD program during the two consecutive academic years of the award or forfeit the award
- Funding is for use only during the recipient’s time in the PhD program: it cannot be used for support in a role past graduation, such as a postdoc or faculty position
- The recipient may not receive another fellowship from another technology company during the same academic period
- With the exception of interns, employees and directors of Microsoft Corporation and its subsidiaries and affiliates are not eligible, nor are persons involved in the execution or administration of this fellowship, or the family members of each above (parents, children, siblings, spouse/domestic partners, or individuals residing in the same household)
