Help us build great software for clinical care, research, and public health! Our team is looking for energetic, detail-oriented, and self-guided students (graduate or undergraduate) with work or study experience in web app development/software engineering/health informatics to contribute to our health information systems. This is an hourly student employee position for the summer, which could continue through the academic year.

About us: 

The University of Washington’s Clinical Informatics Research Group (CIRG) designs, builds and operates information systems that securely manage health information for projects in the Clinical, Public Health, Consumer Health, and Global Health Informatics domains, for both research and usual care. Our collaborators are based at the University of Washington, in national and state governments, and at health care and research organizations across the US and around the world. Our team is led by Dr. Bill Lober, whose background is in emergency medicine and computer engineering, and our staff consists of software developers, system programmers, experts in interaction design/usability and health data system operations, and both graduate and undergraduate students.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Working with the rest of the team to develop, configure, and support software systems. Specific duties include:

  • Writing code
  • Testing / QA: We really need someone who will try to break our software!
  • System configuration (often via command line)
  • Troubleshooting
  • Support

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience working with Linux systems at the command line and any of the following concentrations:

Demonstrated development experience with Python or PHP.

or

Demonstrated database experience with PostgreSQL or MySQL.

or

Experience with devops, including VM management and/or docker container management 

 Desired experience:

  • HTML5, CSS, Javascript.
  • Development and consumption of RESTful APIs.
  • FHIR standard, FHIR servers and related tooling
  • Python Flask, CakePHP.
  • Mobile app dev. 
  • Git & Git workflows.
