Happy summer! Whether you are working in a job off or on campus, enrolled in courses, or developing your capstone or research project, below are activities that can help you make the most of your experience as a graduate student and as a whole person.
Dedicate time to rest and have fun. We acknowledge that while you still have responsibilities, projects, and work during the summer months, there can also be more wiggle room in your schedule for rest, recreation, and connection. In a past grad bulletin, we shared strategies that can help you re-energize. Below are additional resources.
- 21 self-care activities that don’t cost anything
- Cooking on a budget
- Free and cheap cooking classes and food tours in the Puget Sound
- Check out offerings at your campus recreation center: Bothell, Seattle, Tacoma
- Visit free attractions in the Puget Sound
- Free or affordable summer activities for students with families in the Puget Sound
Invest in your professional development. Summer can be the perfect time to hone or develop skills that are applicable to a range of careers. Check out the following professional development strategies and resources.
- Make time for career planning activities
- Practice your elevator pitch in preparation for networking opportunities
- Draft your CV or turn your CV into a resume
- Access LinkedIn Learning content (free to all UW students across tri-campus)
Revisit your goals. Summer can be a time to develop your goals, whether interpersonal, academic, or professional. If you haven’t done so already, consider drafting an individual development plan to help you map out your goals and identify strategies to achieve them.
As with any of our tips, utilize and tailor ones that resonate with your needs. We’ll release another grad bulletin in August, then resume our biweekly release schedule at the start of fall quarter. In the meantime, feel free to check out past grad bulletins.
Best,
