Please share this opportunity with our grad (MS and PMP) and ugrad students.
Dear ECE Students,
I am excited to share a unique and impactful research opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students in our ECE department – “EquityEngine: AI for Inclusive Engineering Education.” This project stands at the confluence of accessibility, artificial intelligence, and education, with a mission to pioneer AI-based resources to support students with disabilities.
We are currently recruiting two passionate individuals to embark on this transformative journey with us. As a crucial part of the team, you’ll be extensively involved in Phase I of the project, which primarily focuses on conducting interviews and collecting invaluable data.
Project Duration: Fall Quarter through Spring Quarter
Commitment: The role involves a commitment to a minimum of 3 credits of independent study per quarter, which equates to approximately 10 hours per week.
Skills and experiences:
  • Interviewing and Data Collection: Experience or willingness to learn how to conduct structured interviews and gather detailed, accurate data.
  • Data Analysis: Proficiency in analyzing qualitative and quantitative data and the ability to derive meaningful conclusions from complex data sets.
  • Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Large Language Models (LLMs): Strong understanding of NLP and LLMs, particularly their application in developing learning resources and solutions.
  • Programming: Proficiency in Python and familiarity with AI and machine learning libraries.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: As we’ll be interacting with diverse participants and stakeholders, clear and empathetic communication skills are key. Team members should be capable of communicating effectively with students with disabilities and other stakeholders.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Given the multidisciplinary nature of this project, team members should be adept at working collaboratively and effectively with others, including experts in accessibility, education, and AI.
  • Interest in Accessibility and Inclusive Design: Though not a must-have, an interest or background in accessibility, inclusive design, or special education would be a valuable asset to the project.
If you’re driven by the potential of AI to foster inclusivity and equity, and you’re ready to invest your energy into a meaningful cause, we’d love to hear from you. To express your interest in this position, please fill out this form: https://forms.gle/CVRjeu1GftWui6Kx5
