UW Research University Alliance (RUA), Research Exchange Travel Award

Senior Grad Students in non-medical STEM!

Want to expand your professional network and spark new collaborations? Looking for a postdoc or an academic job?  Do you think you need some real-life practice to be competitive in the job market?

If you answered yes (even once), keep reading!

The Research University Alliance (RUA) is a National Science Foundation-funded initiative aimed at creating a cross-university community of senior PhD students and postdocs representing groups historically under-represented in Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Computer Science, and Engineering.

Each quarter, UW-RUA funds Research Exchange visits to one of our 8 partner universities (Caltech, Georgia Tech, Harvard, Stanford, UC Berkeley, UCLA, University of Michigan, UT-Austin). Research exchanges are a brief (3-5 day) campus visit allowing you the chance to make a deeper connection with, and impression on, a possible mentor and/or colleague.

  • Grad students on an RE have the chance to network within your host lab, department and beyond; give a lab chalk talk; and explore postdoc opportunities.
  • Postdocs on an RE have the chance to network within your host lab, department, and university; give a research group or departmental seminar; and explore future faculty opportunities.

If you’re wondering how, you might get yourself in front of a friendly audience ready to consider you for a postdoctoral or faculty position, this is it!
