Nature of Organization
The Washington Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) program is an educational pathway program administered by the University of Washington and established by the Washington State Legislature.
Washington MESA provides enrichment and access opportunities to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programs for grades 6 –12 and college students across the state with the goal of increasing representation of historically underrepresented students of color and women in STEM fields.

Duties & Responsibilities
1) Communication: Regular communication to MESA Program staff about professional development opportunities and STEM resources.

• In collaboration with the Director of STEM Programs, create a communication plan outlining key dates, frequency, and other essential details for dissemination of information to directors and other stakeholders.
• Assist with the creation of communication content comprising resources for MESA stakeholders and students, e.g., for experiential learning opportunities.
• Research and identify professional development opportunities that match directors’ professional development needs.

2) Project Management: Develop and apply effective project management tools and strategies to ensure clear and consistent processes and practices.

• Transitioning existing content and upcoming information on curricula and experiential learning resources to SharePoint Site. Work with Data Analyst to provide access where required.
• Uploading, organizing and cataloging content for efficient access to resources for students, teachers and directors
• Stocktaking and management of inventory for use at MESA events including WA MESA Day, site visits and workshops etc.
• Create a framework for reimbursement /payment of stakeholders in conjunction with the Director of STEM programs
• Attend weekly planning meetings with the Director of STEM Programs

3) Event Planning: Assist with organizing, planning, and executing annual MESA events and activities.

• Assisting with the planning of events and activities, researching venues, catering provision, supply sourcing, travel planning including Regional MESA competition support, Washington MESA Day and MESA USA NEDC preparation etc.
• Assisting with set-up and tear down, coordination, and support of staff at events
• Creation of administration materials to enable efficient flow of events, directions, signage, mapping etc.
• Note-taking and archiving information at planning meetings
• Event and post-event sharing of information on social media

Minimum Qualifications
• Demonstrated ability to create databases and write strategic communications pieces for an organization, affinity group, etc., including e-newsletters.
• UW Undergraduate student in English, journalism, marketing, communications, or another related field.
• Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Suite.
• Demonstrated ability to create an event and manage processes from start to finish, including seeking out venues and arranging accommodation and catering.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, creative thinking and problem-solving
