October 1, 2024
This is a friendly reminder that ECE is now accepting nominations for the Marsha Landolt Distinguished Graduate Mentor Award.
If you have a faculty member that you would like ECE to consider, please nominate them using this form.
Eligible faculty are limited to active members of the graduate faculty who are involved in supervision of graduate students.
One nomination is submitted from the ECE department to the Graduate School. Our final ECE nominee will be selected from the pool of nominations.
The deadline to submit your nomination is October 7, 2024 11:59 p.m. Pacific.
Once a final ECE nominee is selected, we will work with the nominator (you) to collect all the required nomination materials listed below:
- *The letter of support from the department chair or their designee (no longer than two pages in length). Note: In the cover letter, departmental chairs are invited to incorporate comments from those nomination letters they have received from current or former students or colleagues that are not among the letters included in the final packet of materials.
- Nomination letters from current graduate students (no more than three letters, each no longer than one page in length).
- Nomination letters from former graduate students (no more than four letters, each no longer than one page in length).
- Nomination letters from other students (e.g., undergraduates or postdoctoral associates), faculty or staff (no more than two letters, each no longer than one page in length).
- *A current, abbreviated version of the nominee’s CV (no longer than six pages in length).
- *A list of current and former mentored graduate students directly supervised. Use this format. Note: We suggest that departments list all the nominee’s students who have received substantive supervision, regardless of whether the nominee was the committee chair or not.
- Other supporting materials as desired, e.g., course syllabi, student evaluations, etc., but not including any additional nomination letters (no longer than four pages in length).
*= required
Given the extent of the nomination materials, I encourage to use this summer and the start of Autumn quarter to have a plan on how you will gather the documents needed. You do not need the materials unless your nominee is selected, so there is no need to do extra work now for you or your nominee before you know the selection results. However, once the nominee is selected, there will be 2 weeks to gather the documentation, so a plan in place would be helpful to you.
For the ECE nomination form, you will need to have the name and email of at least 1 current graduate student and 1 former graduate student that is committed to writing a letter of support.
You will also need to review the Criteria Used to Evaluate Nominees before you fill out the form as we ask that you give examples in your statement of how your nominee exhibits these criteria.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
