Dear GPA’s and GPC’s, 

I hope this message finds you in good spirits. As one holiday break has passed and another approaches, I wanted to send a reminder regarding three funding opportunities administered by the office of Graduate Student Equity and Excellence (GSEE). All three awards are currently open for applications, however, their deadlines are quickly approaching. Below is a brief description of each award for your convenience. More information can be found on their respective webpages (also linked), or you can reach out to me directly with questions at fernp21@uw.edu

Please note, the GSEE Final Year Dissertation Award and the Latinx Scholars Graduate School Fellowship are both awards that students apply to directly through the MyGrad system for students. Funding will be disbursed this academic year (2024-25), so please share these opportunities with current students. 

The GSEE Graduate Excellence Award is a recruitment  award that departments apply to directly through the MyGrad system for faculty and staff, for funding during the next academic year (2025-26).   

GSEE Final Year Dissertation Award

 Award: Recipients will receive a total stipend of $13,333.33 for Winter and/or Spring quarters of the 2024-25 academic year ($6,666.66 per quarter). This award covers full tuition and includes eligibility for health coverage through the Graduate Appointee Insurance Program (GAIP). 

 Eligibility: Graduate student must have achieved candidacy and expect to defend dissertation during the 2024-25 academic year. 

 Deadline: Completed applications must be submitted through the MyGrad system on or before Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at 11:59 pm PST.

Latinx Scholars Graduate School Fellowship

 Award: a one-time award of $2,000 that gets disbursed in the first few weeks of Winter Quarter of the 2024-25 academic year. 

 Eligibility: Graduate student must be enrolled full-time in a master’s or doctoral degree program at the University of Washington and student’s research, work, and/or service must demonstrate their commitment to Latinx communities.

 Deadline: Completed applications must be submitted through the MyGrad system on or before Friday, December 27, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. PST.

GSEE Graduate Excellence Award (GEA)

 Award: Recruitment award for graduate students pursuing a master’s or doctoral program and whose research, work, and/or service demonstrates their sustained commitment to underrepresented communities. 

 Eligibility: Departments with state-based master’s and/or doctoral programs are eligible to apply.

 Deadline: Completed applications must be submitted through the MyGrad system on or before Monday, December 16, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. PST.
