We hope that you’re having a great summer so far. Here are three tips that you can do before school (and recruiting season!) starts to make the most of your break and start refining your PERSONAL BRAND.
1) Familiarize yourself with CLIMB
Your career journey may feel intimidating, like scaling a mountain, but early planning will help maximize your journey. The CLIMB continuum is not a four-year checklist, but an outline of key milestones & activities so that you can make informed decisions and stay on track to achieve your desired career outcomes, whatever year you are in school. Learn more at: https://www.engr.washington.edu/current/careercenter/climb
2) CONNECT and grow your network
Summer is a great time to learn more about a career field and/or company you are considering. With an informational interview, you can confirm your interest in an industry/company, learn about jobs that you never knew existed, and get tips that could help secure you a future role. You can search the Alumni section of UW’s LinkedIn page or check out Husky Landing, hosted by UWAA.
3) INITIATE and tune up your materials with CC@E staff
Summer is also a great time to review your resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn & Handshake profiles are up-to-date. Our staff is available all summer to help anyone (from freshmen to alumni) prepare for their next career steps. Schedule your 30-minute Zoom consultation via Handshake, or e-mail us at “engrhire@uw.edu”.
Follow us on Instagram (@uw.engr.careers) to get more tips from our “Curtis Says” series, and also keep an eye out for our career fair prep sessions in early September. We look forward to working with you!
