Become a GPSS Senator
The Graduate and Professional Student Senate (GPSS) brings together a diverse cross-section of UW’s graduate and professional student community to foster dialogue on issues that matter most to students. Senators introduce, deliberate, amend, and vote on legislation, forming the official voice of graduate and professional students. GPSS empowers students through the democratic process, providing a space where all voices can be heard.
Why become a GPSS Senator?
-
Ensure your department’s students are heard
-
Connect with students from across campus
-
Develop professional communication and leadership skills
-
Provide valuable information and resources to peers
-
Boost your resume with meaningful leadership experience
Interested in becoming a GPSS Senator? Here’s how:
-
Connect with your department: Learn your program’s selection process. Each department appoints up to two senators, so reach out to your Graduate Program Advisor (GPA) or student services office to see how representatives are chosen.
-
Have your appointment confirmed: Once your department selects you, a staff member (like your GPA) emails our Vice President of Administration at gpssvpadmin@uw.edu to make it official.
-
Attend a Senator Orientation: After confirmation, you’ll be invited to orientation to meet the team, learn the ropes, and get the tools you need to succeed.
-
Start representing your peers: Once orientation is complete, you’re an official voting member of the Senate, ready to elevate student voices and help shape university policy.
