November 15, 2021

Important Reminder: The deadline to change the grading option for a course between numeric and satisfactory/non-satisfactory (S/NS) grading is Tuesday, Nov. 16.

Unlike last year when this deadline was waived because of the pandemic, the deadline has been reinstated to the seventh week of the quarter. If you want an autumn 2021 course to be graded as S/NS, you must choose this option in the MyUW registration processes by Tuesday, Nov. 16. In addition, because autumn 2021 is not designated as an Extraordinary Circumstances Quarter, autumn 2021 courses with an “S” grade will not count toward specific major or degree requirements — only as general electives.

Efforts are underway to move the S/NS deadline to the end of the quarter, but this will not be completed before the seventh-week deadline this quarter. If the deadline is moved, we will notify you by email. If you are considering changing to S/NS we recommend that you do so before the Nov. 16 deadline.

As of Oct. 6, 2021, a $20 change of registration fee associated with any change to your autumn 2021 registration will be charged each time you change your grading option, to a maximum of $20 per day.

Students who took courses during the six Extraordinary Circumstances Quarters (spring 2020 through summer 2021) may continue to request changes between S/NS and numeric grading for those courses until their degrees are posted. “S” grades from those quarters will count toward degree and graduation requirements.

Review the Extraordinary Circumstances Quarter web page for more information on S/NS grading in regular and extraordinary circumstances quarters. If you have questions about whether to switch to S/NS from numeric grading, please consult with your academic adviser.
