The following opportunity is available for all students who are US Citizens or Permanent Residents to apply:

What if you could be paid to solve the toughest national security problems while developing your entrepreneurial and technical skills and gaining real-world experience?

You can. The National Security Innovation Network is accepting applications for X-Force—the Department of Defense’s Summer 2021 Fellowship. Last summer’s teams of students solved a slew of incredible problems: groups developed AI/software around drone-to-drone assessments of hot zones in contested areas; researched wireless powering of unmanned aerial vehicles; used machine learning for predictive maintenance of the B-52 aircraft; and worked with the Army Rangers to better understand and address the problem of mild traumatic brain injury.

Whether your skills can best help craft a modern social media strategy, rapidly prototype a hardware solution, solve a web/mobile/app development problem, or research a tech topic of need for military commanders, we have amazing challenges to be solved that require your expertise.

A few example projects for THIS summer are:

  • Develop extended reality (AR/VR) systems for a virtual training cockpit to aid the US Air Force
  • Help the DoD and Intelligence Community integrate data and intelligence across various database
  • Help DoD Pathologists and radiologists develop a more efficient means of processing lung scans in order to more quickly diagnose patients and begin treatment plans
  • Assist mobile light land forces to enable sustained operations in austere environments over extended time frames through the use of renewable energy solutions in order to minimize their need for fossil fuels

To apply to X-Force, click hereWe are offering both full-time fellowships (paid by DoD, ~$2,500+/month), located in the vicinity of the military unit (depending on the COVID-19 situation), and also remote unpaid fellowships for students already committed to other summer activities but still want to be involved (reduced workload of 5-10 hours per week). The cohort will run from June 1-August 13, 2021 with flexibility on the exact start/end date depending on availability.

Interested students can also find out more about the fellowship on the NSIN Handshake channel.

The final deadline for X-Force Fellowship applications is February 1, 2021.
