Grid Modernization Intern

The Electrification and Strategic Technology Division supports broad electrification and adoption of new technologies that benefit both the customer and the grid. The DA FLISR projects strategically modernize the distribution system by installing automated switches, building the modern DA communication network, and integrating with EMS. Primary benefits are from both automated reconfiguration and remote (SOC) control of the switches, resulting in smaller customer outages and faster restoration.
The Grid Modernization Team, a group within the Electrification and Strategic Technology Division, is responsible for developing projects that improve the operation of the grid for customer benefits, with new or broader application of many types of technologies.
The Grid Modernization intern will be responsible for assisting the Distribution Automation FLISR project lead in designing, programming, testing, and implementing DA projects.
- Job Responsibilities
- During this internship, the intern will be specifically responsible to:
- Create engineering drawings
- Configure real-time automation controllers
- Coordinate tasks related to Distribution Automation FLISR projects
This internship will benefit the student through the following learning objectives:
- Building experience and skills in engineering drawings
- Programming automation controllers
- Experiencing multi-disciplinary utility work
- Participating in SCL’s Grid Modernization program implementation
- Qualifications
- This position is open to Junior or Senior, and graduate students (as of the start of the internship) studying electrical engineering.
Engineering students must possess at least a 2.5 GPA at the time of application and throughout the internship. The student must be enrolled in accredited college courses, with a part-time or full-time course load, leading to a degree or certificate relevant to the internship.

- Internship Duration and Hours:
The time frame of the internship will be June 2021 to June 2022. The candidate must be available to work 40 hours/week during the summer and up to 20 hours/week when classes are in session. Work hours will be flexible to accommodate the intern’s academic schedule. This position may be extended for up to two years based on student performance and eligibility.How to Apply:
