PLEASE READ THIS SECTION CAREFULLY. We are writing to make you aware of a change to the BS EE curriculum and the Autumn 2021 time schedule.
The EE 235 / EE 341 signal processing series is being restructured as follows:
Course Change |
Last Offering of Original Course |
First Offering of New Course |
EE 235 (5 credits) –> EE 242 (5 credits) |
Spring 2021 |
Autumn 2021 |
EE 242 has a corequisite of EE 241 (2 credits) |
N/A |
Autumn 2021 |
EE 341 (5 credits) –> EE 342 (4 credits) |
Autumn 2021 |
Winter 2022 |
As a result, two important changes are currently in the process of being made to the Electrical Engineering time schedule for the Autumn 2021 quarter:
-
EE 400: Adv. Topics in Elec. Engineering: Programming
-
This course has been renumbered as E E 241: Programming for Signal and Information Processing Applications.
-
-
EE 235: Continuous Time Linear Systems
-
This course has been replaced by EE 242: Signal Processing I starting with the Autumn 2021 quarter.
-
The current listing of EE 235 in the Autumn 2021 time schedule is in the process of being changed to EE 242 and will run at the same time with the same number of lab sections.
-
We hope that the change from EE 235 to EE 242 will be up to date in the Autumn 2021 time schedule by the start of registration on May 7th.
-
In the event the course update is not made by that time, EE 235 will remain on the time schedule but will be add code restricted. We will post a link on the time schedule to a form students will complete to be issued add codes. There will be no add code restriction once the course has been updated to EE 242 in the Autumn 2021 time schedule.
-
PLEASE NOTE: EE 241 is a corequisite for EE 242, meaning students must be registered for EE 241 in order to register for EE 242
-
IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY TAKING OR HAVE ALREADY TAKEN EE 235 AND WISH TO TAKE EE 341, YOU MUST TAKE EE 341 IN SUMMER 2021 OR AUTUMN 2021! EE 235 WILL NOT SATISFY THE PREREQUISITE FOR ENTRY INTO EE 342.
-
Effective Winter 2022, EE 341 will no longer be offered and will be replaced with EE 342: Signal Processing II.
-
Autumn 2021 is the final quarter in which EE 341 will be offered. EE 341 is also being offered this summer quarter.
-
In order to take EE 342 in the future, students will need to have satisfied the EE 242 prerequisite.
Please also be aware of the following:
-
The new EE core will include:
-
EE 215
-
EE 233
-
EE 235 or EE 242
-
-
EE 447 currently lists the following classes as prerequisites – E E 233; E E 235; and either MATH 136 or MATH 308. The EE 235 prerequisite will be satisfied by either EE 235 or EE 242.
-
Students who have already taken EE 235 will not be required to take EE 242.
We understand that this change may be confusing. If you have questions about the information in this email, please email the ECE Undergraduate Advising Team at undergrad@ece.uw.edu.
Sincerely,
The ECE Undergraduate Advising Team
