The UW honors National First-Gen College Celebration Day every early November! In this regard, first-generation graduate students are cordially invited to attend a free, online welcome event. All first-gen grad students from across tri-campus are welcome.

A first-gen graduate student is in the first generation of their family to earn a Bachelor’s degree—and currently working towards a graduate degree.

Featuring:

  • Guest Speaker: Dr. Ralina L. Joseph, First-Gen College Student, Professor of Communication, and Associate Dean of Equity, Inclusion & Justice in Grad Programs in The Graduate School
  • Guest Speaker: Jessica Kong, First-Gen College Student, Doctoral Student in Chemistry, and UW Clean Energy Institute Graduate Fellow.

At this event, you will:

  • Hear insights and perspectives from UW first-gen faculty and grad student guest speakers
  • Learn about strategies that will support your success in grad school
  • Build community with first-gen peers from across the disciplines
  • Have a chance to win an e-gift card!

This event is sponsored by Core Programs—Office of Graduate Student Affairs in The Graduate School.
