The Fulbright US Student Program application is now open. Fulbright offers grants for participants to pursue graduate-level study, research, creative arts projects, or teach English abroad. Grants are typically between 8 and 10 months long and are offered in approximately 140 countries.
There is no “one student profile” for Fulbright. Fulbright encourages people from traditionally underrepresented audiences to apply. Fulbright looks for applicants who demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, a desire to engage in exchange, and who are prepared to carry out their proposed activities abroad. Students can demonstrate this in a lot of different ways. For example:
- First-generation and transfer students demonstrate resilience and way-finding skills in their navigation of the university;
- Students who have challenged themselves with coursework while balancing other responsibilities demonstrate adaptability and maturity;
- Students who have persisted in their major, minor, or language coursework demonstrate adaptability and academic preparation (there’s no GPA requirement!);
- Students who have volunteered to support other learners as ambassadors, peer navigators, community leaders, or tutors demonstrate a desire to engage (and make particularly strong English Teaching Assistant grant candidates).
Fulbright provides grants to pursue independent research, the creative arts, graduate-level study, or assistant English teaching for 8-10 months abroad. During their grants, Fulbrighters meet, work, live with and learn from the people of the host country, sharing experiences and building relationships.
- Open to U.S. citizens who will have a bachelor’s degree by the start of the grant (summer 2023)
- Applicants should not have a doctoral degree at time of application
- There may be language requirements depending on the grant type and location
- UW Deadline: August 31
