We are looking for Ph.D. students and Postdocs to help make information about applying to graduate school/Ph.D. programs accessible. Please consider volunteering for one or both of the programs below to support students who may be interested in and/or applying to graduate school.

Graduate Applicant Support Program (GASP)

Graduate Application Support Program (GASP) aims to provide assistance to applicants, especially those from underserved communities, who may not have access to mentors. GASP mentors, who are current Ph.D. students and Postdocs in ECE, are expected to read application materials, i.e, CV and Statement of Purpose, and provide one round of meaningful feedback to help applicants improve their materials. This experience would be valuable if you are considering a faculty or industry research position that would involve mentoring students.

If you are willing to help, please fill this form, and we will email you with more details [2 mins] – https://forms.gle/ginVURxXZJPbjkyh7 [forms.gle]

We drafted an FAQ for GASP, which can be accessed at this link [docs.google.com].  [docs.google.com]This program can only be successful if we have enough representatives from different research groups. Please consider signing up as a mentor if you are able.

Virtual Graduate Student Office Hours

The Virtual Grad Admissions Office Hours would be a resource to alleviate challenges with the information imbalance applicants face when considering graduate studies, especially students from historically marginalized communities.

What: Hold virtual office hours to speak with prospective students. We will have students from 2 research groups host the session per week.

Time commitment: ~2 hours of your time in total between late October, 2022, to mid-December, 2022 (Application deadline for UW ECE).

Where: Zoom

If you are willing to help, please fill out this form, and we will email you with more details – https://forms.gle/gMrWrn3UTtXyn8pcA [forms.gle]

These sessions will be diverse and impactful if we’re able to recruit student volunteers from different research groups. Please consider contributing 2 hours of your time if you are able.

If you have any trouble accessing the forms, please ensure you are using your UW login. Feel free to email me at nkalavak@uw.edu if you have any questions about either of these programs and/or the role of volunteers.
