October 4, 2023

The Office of Graduate Student Equity & Excellence (GSEE), formerly known as the Graduate Opportunities & Minority Achievement Program (GO-MAP) hopes that the beginning of the academic year is going well for you and your departments! In our previous messaging sent mid-September, we provided our 2023-2024 Factsheets and Autumn Quarter Events Flyer. Please review the information below regarding Getting Connected, Huskies@Work, and the Outreaching Grads (OG) Program.

 Getting Connected

Please continue to invite your historically underrepresented students to join GSEE for one of our signature events of the year: Getting Connected! This year, we will be hosting a two-part event. Our virtual Getting Connected Student Panel is an excellent opportunity for connection and community across disciplines! Our virtual panel provides opportunities for GSEE students to learn tips and tricks from current graduate students about succeeding in graduate school. Students can tune into the virtual panel on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 from 3:30pm-5:00pm PST! Please RSVP via Eventbrite.

The second event for this year’s Getting Connected will be an in-person Getting Connected Reception on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 from 6:30 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. PST! Doors open at 6pm. Program begins at 6:30pm.  Please invite students to join GSEE as we gather together! Students can start the academic year off right by making new connections and rekindling older ones. Please RSVP via Eventbrite.

Huskies@Work

This year, GSEE is partnering with the UW Alumni Association to encourage our amazing students to connect with alumni through Huskies@Work. Please share the below information with your students and encourage them to participate in this professional development opportunity:

Find your career path through Huskies@Work

Huskies@Work connects current UW students with alumni for short, one-time conversations about careers. Whether you’re curious about a new career field or already have a dream job in mind, sign up to get the inside information you need. Applications are open through October 22, 2023. https://huskylanding.uw.edu/hub/huskylanding/programs/mentoring-program-2223/about?showBack=true

Outreaching Grads

GSEE’s Outreaching Grads (OGs) Program is a group of graduate students from historically underrepresented backgrounds. Our OGs help to support GSEE, academic departments, and student organizations as they enhance outreach and recruitment efforts for prospective and incoming graduate students. Departments can request OGs to connect with prospective students (in-person or virtual), attend recruitment events, or participate in other opportunities where their experiences can be shared with potential graduate students.

If you would like to request an OG for your department, please complete this form or reach out to GSEE at uwgsee@uw.edu
