As Winter 2024 Quarter begins, we would like to provide important dates, deadlines, and Winter Quarter registration reminders;

Please keep these deadlines and guidelines in mind, as the advising office cannot waive any of these fees or maneuver around many of these deadlines.  If you have any questions, please let us know.

Wednesday, January 3       
Tuesday, January 9
  • Last day to add, drop or change a course in the Registration Office or via MyUW without being assessed a $20 Fee and possible tuition forfeiture 
Wednesday, January 10 – Tuesday, January 16
Wednesday, January 10       
  • Late Add Period – $20 fee and Entry Codes required to add all courses 
Monday, January 15
  • Martin Luther King Day – No School. All UW offices closed. 
Wednesday, January 17– Friday, March 8
Friday, January 19
  • Tuition payment deadline for all registered students
Tuesday, January 23
  • Last day to add a course through MyUW
Friday, February 9- Sunday, February 25
Monday, February 19
  • President’s Day – No School. All UW offices closed. 
Monday, February 26 – Sunday, March 24
Friday, March 8
  • Last Day of Instruction 
  • Last day to submit request and payment for On-leave Request for Winter Quarter through MyGrad
  • Last Day to pay $250 Graduate Registration Waiver Fee without registering/paying tuition for Winter Quarter (for students who were registered in the previous Autumn Quarter)
Saturday, March 9 – Friday, March 15
  • Final Examination Week
Wednesday, March 13
  • Last day to hold an MS Thesis or General/ Final Exam (PhD) for Winter 2024 graduation
Friday, March 15
Spring Break – March 16-24
 

WINTER QUARTER REMINDERS

 
*Please remember the following as you are putting the finishing touches on your Winter Quarter Schedule*:
Independent Study / Research Credits:

  • EE 599 A – Independent Research – For MSEE students and Pre-Qualifying Exam Ph.D. students without an MS degree.  Maximum of 8 credits can be counted towards MS degree; Max. of 5 cr. for Ph.D.; faculty code needed.
  • EE 600 – For Ph.D. students who have an MS degree and post-Qualifying Exam/second-year Ph.D. students may register for EE 600. Not applicable as credit towards an MSEE degree; faculty code needed.
  • EE 700 – MSEE students – thesis research option only (cannot count toward coursework option); faculty code needed.
  • EE 800 – For post-General Exam Ph.D. students only; faculty code needed.

Please take care to register for the appropriate independent study credits for your degree level. All 400-level independent study and readings courses (e.g. – 490, 499) are not applicable towards graduate degrees. Also, graduate students wishing to take the ECE Department Colloquium series should register for EE 500, not EE 491.

RA/TA: 

  • If you have received an RA or TA appointment for this quarter, you are required to register for a minimum of 10 credits to maintain funding
  • If Winter will be your final quarter and you will graduate – please contact ECE Graduate Advising if you would like to Petition for a Reduced Enrollment.
 

International Students:

 

Ph.D. Qualifying Exams:

Qualifying Exams take place in autumn and spring quarters only. During those quarters, we will send out announcements for the Ph.D. Qualifying Exams, which will include information on the process, substitution forms, etc.  You can also find this information here:
