Topic: Special Presentation by US Navy Admiral on Submarine Technology

Date: Wednesday, April 17

Time/Location: 10:30 AM – 11:20 AM in ECE 125.  Potential for pizza lunch afterwards from Noon- 1:00 PM at second location (RSVP for lunch location)

Join us for a “deep dive” into the science and engineering behind our Nation’s nuclear submarine force!  U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Nicholas Tilbrook will present the basic principles and design of the many systems that allow submarines to operate submerged for months at a time with no external support.  The topics to be discussed include power generation, sonar, water production, atmospheric controls, weapons systems, surfacing, diving, and submerged operations. This will be an exciting look into the complex technology that maintains our Navy’s submarines as the best in the world.  We hope you can join us!

Students with a strong interest in learning more about careers with the US Navy and Navy technology are further invited to an informal pizza lunch with the Admiral and other Navy officers after the presentation.  Lunch will be from Noon- 1:00 PM, location to be provided after RSVP.  If you would like to join the lunch portion of this event, kindly contact Professor Hermanson at jherm@aa.washington.edu no later than Monday, April 15th to RSVP.   Please provide you full name and Engineering Department.
