April 30, 2024

The Graduate and Professional Student Senate (GPSS) will have its elections on May 8. GPSS represents the graduate and professional students of the Seattle Campus to UW Administration, the Graduate School, and all levels of government.
Six elected academic student employee (ASE) positions are available with tuition waiver and summer work opportunities (7 weeks at $30/hour; up to 20 hours/week). About half of the hours may be filled remotely; interested students should ask current officers for a breakdown by quarter. Our Senators will vote on May 8.
The Student Regent Selection process is close to wrapping up, and the applicants were overwhelmingly from graduate and professional programs. We know students from across UW are interested in these kinds of leadership opportunities.

Who May Run
Any graduate and professional student at the Seattle Campus, including prospective students who will enroll in Summer of Fall 2024, may run. We know that some undergraduates were recently admitted to continue their education, or some masters and doctoral students may have taken a gap between degrees.
There are no incumbents due to graduations and other opportunities. Although we expect candidates for each position, candidates still have time to declare up until the election if no one has declared for a position by May 5.

Required Meetings
There is a requirement to attend at least one GPSS meeting run under parliamentary procedure, which can either be fulfilled on Wednesday at 5:30 in HUB 238 or Friday in HUB 303 or on Zoom.

Wednesday meeting on May 1,  5:30: https://washington.zoom.us/j/92455190217

Friday meeting on May 3, 10:30: https://washington.zoom.us/meeting/tJErdOyppzMpH9ZeEAhgmiqWD99vMmCX6Ee7/ics?icsToken=98tyKuCtqDgvG92dsxyFRowMBIjCZ-vxmFxegvpnmTrECydeaxLBErsbJJ9yM-CG

Additionally, candidates must go to at least 2 more additional meetings, which will all be held in HUB 314. We have mechanisms to waive these meeting requirements, but feel it is important for future officers to know how a meeting would operate.
