Nov. 19: Biological Feedstocks – From Seaweed Waste to Strong Plastics and Concrete

Join us for our November program on Wednesday, Nov 19, featuring guest speaker Dr. Eleftheria Roumeli, Associate Professor in the Materials Science & Engineering Department at the University of Washington.

This hybrid event, “Designing Sustainable Materials from Biological Feedstocks: From Seaweed Waste to Strong Plastics and Concrete,” will explore how sustainable materials research is driving innovation in bioplastics, biocomposites, and environmentally friendly construction materials.

Dr. Roumeli will share insights from her research group, which focuses on transforming biological building blocks into durable, high-performance materials—and discuss the real-world potential of biopolymers in reducing environmental impact.
