I am developing a new graduate-level, hands-on course focused on FPGA-based acceleration of deep learning for edge AI applications. The course teaches students how to deploy, optimize, and benchmark object detection models on modern FPGA platforms using industry-standard tools. The TA will play a key role in designing laboratory exercises, developing instructional materials, validating hardware and software workflows, and helping build a high-quality learning experience for the course’s first offering.
Responsibilities
- Assist in designing and developing hands-on laboratory exercises and course projects.
- Develop and validate FPGA-based lab implementations
- Create instructional materials, lab manuals, tutorials, and sample code.
- Test and debug laboratory exercises, hardware setups, and software toolchains before deployment.
- Evaluate new FPGA hardware, software, and development workflows for classroom use.
- Assist in preparing lecture demonstrations and supporting course logistics.
- Help maintain course repositories, documentation, and instructional resources.
Required Skills
- Strong background in digital design and computer architecture.
- Experience with FPGA development (Systems Verilog/VHDL and/or High-Level Synthesis).
- Familiarity with AMD/Xilinx FPGA tools (Vivado, Vitis AI, Vitis HLS) or equivalent FPGA development environments.
- Experience with embedded systems and Linux-based development environments.
- Knowledge of machine learning fundamentals, particularly convolutional neural networks and object detection.
- Programming experience in C/C++ and Python.
- Experience with Git and collaborative software development.
- Strong debugging, problem-solving, and technical documentation skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently in a collaborative educational environment.
