October 9, 2025
This year, the program will start in early November 2025 and run through June 2026. Groups will meet either in person or online, and the time commitment includes 8 monthly meetings (1-2 hours per meeting) and a kickoff webinar (about 1 hour). The program is open to all; you do not need to be a woman to participate. You will need to be a Seattle AWIS member or pay $20 (Seattle chapter-only dues) to participate, as this program is a benefit of AWIS membership.
You might be wondering how this mentorship program could benefit you, especially if you have access to mentorship through your school or workplace. By joining a group of scientists outside your immediate work environment, you can share your struggles and challenges more openly, without fear of repercussions.
Additionally, the AWIS program is an excellent opportunity to expand your professional network. This program allows you to learn about different companies, types of work, and how others navigated their careers to reach their current positions. What your group discusses at each meeting will be up to you! Some groups read and discuss a relevant paper or article, while others focus on sharing professional achievements and challenges, offering advice and insights to one another.
If you’re interested in joining a peer mentoring group, please fill out the application here so we can match you with the best mentors and peers. Historically, our mentoring groups have included professional scientists and graduate students and are organized around topics such as early career support, career transitions, non-traditional science careers, teaching science, and navigating the workplace (e.g., handling conflicts, managing different personalities, presenting new ideas, adapting to change, working with a difficult boss, etc.).
Please submit your application by October 24th to be considered for this year’s program. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out! Please feel free to forward this to anyone you think might be interested! And in case the URL link doesn’t work above, copy/paste this link: https://forms.gle/Wnw9SVs2E9M4BBgVA.
