The Summer 2026 ECE TA and Grader applications are now open. The priority deadline to apply is May 4th, 2026 by 5:00PM Pacific Standard Time.
You must use your UW Net ID to log in to the applications. Click on the links embedded below to access the applications. 
TA application: Please DO NOT APPLY if you do not meet TA eligibility criteria in policy 5.2 (this pertains to International students). You will be asked to very this information in the application. 
Grader application: Grader positions do not include a tuition waiver and are paid hourly.
Additional Information:
  • There are limited TA and Grader spots in summer in ECE due to the minimal courses we offer.  We are only offering the following courses, and not all courses may receive a TA or Grader slot as enrollments tend to be very low in summer.

Please only list classes of interest that you feel confident in the material to TA or Grade and list them in order of preference on the application
 
Important Note:  The UW payroll period is June 16 – August 15. Grades are due August 25th . Per the ASE contract, Article 35.7  – “Both parties understand that the published University calendar governs the work of all bargaining unit members, and in some Academic Quarters examination schedules may conclude several days beyond the last pay period of the… appointment. ASEs appointed in these quarters recognize that their obligation extends to grading exams and/or papers submitted at those times, and other similar duties as assigned.”
This means the pay dates in Workday for ASEs don’t always reflect actual dates of work, but as a best practice are used in order to calculate the total number of work hours an ASE owes, as well as ensure the systems can read eligibility for relevant tuition and GAIP coverage. 
Therefore, it is expected students are prepared to start work based upon the date listed in their offer and that their obligations extends to grading exams and/or papers and other similar duties assigned for examination schedules that may conclude several days beyond the last pay period of the appointment.
 
If you receive an offer and have leave plans during the pay period listed in the letter, you must discuss your leave plan with the instructor.  The department should be included in leave conversations if the time away is more than a few days by emailing stepswan@uw.edu. There is an expectation the TA or Grader will be able to fulfill their responsibilities for the course.
 
Given the minimal spots ECE has for TA positions, I encourage everyone to look for other TA or Student Employee Opportunities via Handshake, contacting the departments of interest, working with the career center and other job boards.
The timeline and salary information for Summer 2026 is below:

Salary Estimate
PhD post generals (passed general exam) = $4,345.20/month; $8,690.40/quarter
PhD pre generals (not yet passed general exam) = $4,138.80/month; $8,277.60/quarter
Masters = $4,138.80/month; $8,277.60/quarter
Undergrads = $22.65/hour, not to exceed 19.5 hours per week, No Tuition Waiver.

Salaried TA (PhD & MS): June 16, 2026 to August 15, 2026
Undergraduate TA:  June 16, 2026, or 2 weeks from the date the offer is sent (if after June 16) to August 25, 2026
